Do You Know the History of SEO?

History of SEO

In the mid 1990’s, both webmaster and content providers were started to optimizing site for search
engines.  At Beginning all webmasters submit their webpage address or URL to various search engines. Search engines send a spider to crawl the web pages and extract the links of others pages from it, and index it according to the information provided on that pages. The processes involved in it are:
1. First Search engine spider download the page and then placed it on the own search engine’s server after sorting it.
2. It index those pages by extracting the information like word it contains and where these are located, as well as weight for any specific word and extract all links in that page which is then scheduled to crawl at later date.
After doing this, site owner believed that their website ranked high and become more visible in search engine result pages. The term “search engine optimization" came into use in 1997 according to industry analyst Danny Sullivan but the term was popularized by Bruce clay, on May 2nd 2007. Jason Gambert attempted to trademark the term SEO by convincing that “SEO” process involves manipulating of keywords and not a marketing service at Trademark office in Arizona.
Earlier search engine algorithm depends on webmaster and they add keyword Meta tag or index files in search engines like ALIWEB which is used earlier. By adding meta tags in each page helps to rank page higher or index pages in search engine results. Web masters add irrelevant keyword meta tags to the pages which does not match with the actual page content. Because of this which causes the pages to rank for irrelevant searches also. Keyword density is also one of the main factors in search engine optimization which is also controlled by webmaster. Early search engine suffered a lot for bad effect and ranking manipulation. To provide a good result, search engines need to ensure that search engine result pages have to show the most relevant searches instead of showing irrelevant pages like stuffed with lot of keywords by unethical webmaster. Search engine popularity and success depends on their ability to produce most relevant search results to any given search. If they provide poor quality or irrelevant search results when searched for any given search which cause people to search for other search engine sources.
Search engine designers understand the effort of webmasters by making websites to rank well in the search engine results and find some of the webmasters were even manipulating their ranking in search results by stuffing more keywords in pages. Search engines such as Altavista and Infoseek which were used earlier, bring changes in their algorithm in order to prevent webmasters from manipulating rankings. Companies which were using aggressive techniques to rank well in search engine result page and their websites are later banned from the search results.  Major search engines are providing guidelines and algorithms for site optimization. Webmaster tools provides a path for webmaster to submit a sitemap, helps to index WebPages, determine the crawl rate, keyword index status etc.
